WeChat Pay offers a secure and convenient way to complete your education payments directly through your mobile device. Please review the specific requirements and follow the step-by-step guide below to ensure a smooth transaction.
Requirements for a Wechat Pay Payment
- Eligible Users: This payment method only available to students and payers who hold a valid Mainland Chinese National ID. Payers from regions such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, or other countries who wish to pay in Chinese Yuan (CNY) should select an alternative payment method, such as UnionPay, Visa, or Mastercard.
- Transaction Limit: The maximum limit for WeChat Pay is 300,000 CNY per payment request. If your required amount exceeds this limit, WeChat Pay will not appear as an available option.
- Supported Payer Relationships: Due to compliance regulations, the payer must be the student (Self), or the student's Parents, Grandparents, Spouse, or Siblings. Other relationships, such as friends or agencies, cannot use this payment method.
- Required Documentation: You are required to upload two supporting documents for foreign exchange compliance: an official Tuition Invoice (or payment notice) and a Studying Certificate (such as an Offer Letter, Student Card, or I-20).
Steps to Complete your Wechat Pay Payment
Step 1: Fill in your details
Accurately fill in all the required information on the page. During this step, you will be specifically required to provide:
- Payer Relationship: Select the payer's relationship to the student from the drop-down menu (Self, Parents, Grandparents, Spouse, or Siblings).
- Student's Chinese ID Number: Enter the student's valid Mainland Chinese ID number.
- Student's Name in Chinese: Enter the student's name in Chinese characters, exactly as it appears on their ID card.
Step 2: Upload your documents
Following the on-screen prompts, securely upload your Tuition Invoice and your Studying Certificate. Note: You must complete this step first. The payment button will remain locked and will only become clickable after your documents are successfully uploaded.
Step 3: Make the payment
Once your documents are uploaded and you click to pay, a WeChat Pay QR code will display on the screen. The payer must scan this code using their own WeChat app, which will launch the WeChat Pay Mini Program.Based on your payment amount and your WeChat-linked bank accounts, the Mini Program will offer two payment channels:
- Bank Transfer via WeChat (银行转账): Recommended if your payment is over 30,000 CNY. WeChat will provide an official bank account. The payer must follow the prompts to complete the transfer via their personal online banking, mobile banking, or offline bank counter.
- WeChat Direct Pay (微信支付): Recommended for amounts under 30,000 CNY. This supports linked debit cards, WeChat Balance (零钱), or Lingqiantong (零钱通). Simply scan the code, enter your WeChat payment password, and complete the transaction.
Status Updates After You Transfer:Normally, your payment status updates in real-time once the transaction is successful, and notifications will be sent to the payer's WeChat and registered email address.
Step 4: Document verification
After your payment is successfully made, your uploaded documents will undergo a foreign exchange compliance verification. This process is typically completed within 4–6 hours (excluding weekends and public holidays).
Step 5: Payment delivery and receipt
Once your documents are successfully verified, your Flywire payment status will update, and the funds will be delivered to your institution within 2–3 business days (excluding weekends and public holidays). We will send a confirmation email to the payer’s email address once the transfer is fully completed, and an official payment receipt will be available for download.
