If you are paying from Nigeria, the troubleshooting steps depend on whether you are making a Domestic Transfer (in NGN) or an International Transfer (in a foreign currency via Form A). Please find the most common questions for your payment method below.
Domestic Transfers in Naira (NGN)
Why does my beneficiary account say it "does not exist"?
If you are trying to complete an NGN online transfer and your bank says the account cannot be found, it is likely due to the strict rules of our virtual accounts:
- 48-Hour Expiration: NGN payment instructions are only valid for 48 hours. If this time has passed, the account is deactivated. You must create a new Flywire payment request.
- Exact Amount Required: You must transfer the exact NGN amount indicated. Incorrect amounts will cause the payment to be rejected.
- Bank Limits: If your transfer exceeds your personal bank's online daily limit, the transaction will fail. You must visit your local bank branch to complete the transfer within the 48-hour window.
International Transfers from Nigeria (Foreign Currency & Form A)
My bank is asking for additional documentation. What does Flywire provide?
Flywire provides you with a Payment Instructions document when you create your request. The very first page of this document is an Authorization Letter. This letter legally proves the partnership between Flywire and your institution, authorizing us to collect payments on their behalf.
To complete your international transfer, you will also need to provide your own documents to the Nigerian government's Trade Monitoring System (Form A), including:
- Your BVN (Bank Verification Number).
- Your official invoice (provided directly by your institution).
- The Form A application (completed online, not at a branch) to access the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) official exchange rate.
My bank will not transfer funds to a "third party." What should I do?
Because Flywire is the authorized payment processor for your institution, banks sometimes misunderstand the relationship. Please provide your bank with the Authorization Letter (the first page of your Flywire payment instructions). This document serves as official confirmation that your bank is permitted to send the funds to Flywire.
My bank needs more time to complete the transfer. Can you extend my due date?
Yes! We understand that international bank transfers from Nigeria (via Form A) can face severe delays due to CBN processing times. If you have chosen an international bank transfer in a foreign currency (USD, CAD, GBP, etc.), we can extend your due date. Please contact our support team via our web form and we will assist you with the extension.
