Bank transfers in Canada are generally sent as domestic wire transfers. While you should check with your bank to confirm the options available to you, Canadian banks generally require wire transfers to be completed offline by visiting a branch in person.
How to complete your bank transfer
- Create your payment with Flywire: Select Bank Transfer in CAD and complete your payment request. Flywire will provide payment instructions that include the bank details, payment amount, and payment reference required for the transfer.
- Send the transfer through your bank: Contact your bank to confirm how to send a domestic wire transfer. In most cases, you will need to visit a branch in person. Bring your Flywire payment instructions with you and provide them to your bank representative to complete the transfer.
- Make sure Flywire receives the full payment amount: Your bank may charge a wire transfer fee. Ask your bank whether any applicable fees can be charged separately so that they are not deducted from the payment amount.
Will my bank charge a wire transfer fee?
Your bank may charge a fee for sending a wire transfer. Bank fees vary, so contact your bank to confirm the cost before sending your payment.
Any fees charged by your bank are separate from fees charged by Flywire. Any applicable Flywire fees will be shown when you create your payment.
Where available, you may also consider an online payment method, such as Online Bill Pay, Interac e-Transfer, or Pay by Bank. Available payment methods and any related fees will be shown when you create your payment. Contact your bank to confirm whether it charges additional fees.
Is Bank Transfer the same as Online Bill Pay?
No. Bank Transfer and Online Bill Pay are separate payment methods.
Important: If you selected Bank Transfer in CAD, do not send your payment through your bank’s online bill payment service.
If you want to pay through your bank’s online bill payment service, create a new Flywire payment request and select Online Bill Pay in CAD, where available.
Always use your current Flywire payment instructions
Always use the Flywire payment instructions provided for your current payment request. Do not reuse bank details or a payment reference from a previous payment.
Using previous payment instructions could delay your payment or make it more difficult for Flywire to identify and match your funds.
How long will my payment take?
Flywire typically receives a bank transfer within 1–2 business days after it is sent by your bank.
After receiving the funds, Flywire may take up to 3 business days to process and deliver the payment to the institution or business you are paying.
You can track your payment status using your Flywire tracking link.
