How quickly Flywire receives, processes, and delivers your payment to your institution or organization depends on your payment method, bank processing times, and whether additional review or verification is required.
You can track your payment at any time through your Flywire tracking page or account dashboard.
How long payment processing takes
A Flywire payment usually moves through three main stages: receiving funds, processing funds, and delivering funds.
1. Receiving your funds
The time required for Flywire to receive your payment depends on the payment method used:
- Bank transfers: Bank transfers typically take 2 to 3 business days to reach Flywire after your bank releases the funds.
- Online payment methods: Online payment methods, such as PayPal or Trustly, may take 1 to 2 business days for your bank or payment provider to release the funds to Flywire.
- Card payments: Most card payments update shortly after authorization. However, some card payments may require additional review before the payment status updates.
2. Processing your funds
Once Flywire receives or confirms your payment, it typically takes 2 to 3 business days to process and deliver the funds to your institution or organization.
Some payments may require additional review or verification before they can continue processing. This depends on the payment method and the country or region you are paying from.
If Flywire needs more information, we will contact the payer by email with instructions.
3. Delivering funds to your institution
Once processing is complete, Flywire delivers your payment to your institution or organization.
After delivery, your institution or organization may require 2 to 3 business days to update your student or customer account balance, depending on their internal process.
Payment status notifications and emails
Flywire sends automated email notifications when important payment updates are available.
Bank transfers
For bank transfers, Flywire usually sends an email when we receive or confirm your funds.
Online payment methods and card payments
For online payment methods and card payments, you may not receive a separate email when Flywire receives or confirms your payment.
This is because your tracking page usually updates shortly after a successful payment or authorization. Please check your tracking page for the latest payment status.
Payment confirmation and receipts
Once your payment is delivered to your institution or organization, Flywire sends a confirmation email with access to your payment receipt.
When your payment status updates
Your payment status updates when your payment reaches a new stage, such as:
- Flywire receives or confirms your funds.
- Your payment is under review or processing.
- Your payment is delivered to your institution or organization.
- Additional information or documentation is required from the payer.
Why your payment status may be delayed
If your payment status is taking longer than expected to update, it is usually due to one of the following reasons:
- Your bank or payment provider has not yet released the funds to Flywire.
- The transfer was initiated on a weekend or public bank holiday.
- The Payment ID or reference number was missing or incomplete.
- The amount received does not match the amount in your payment request.
- The payment requires manual review, compliance review, regulatory review, or document review.
- Your bank, intermediary bank, or payment provider needs additional processing time.
