To comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, your refund must be sent back to the bank account from which the original payment was made. This is called the originating account. Flywire does not store this information.
The proof of the original transaction, or payment proof, shows that your payment was made from this bank account to Flywire. Valid proof of the original transaction is:
- Domestic bank transfer (transfers made within the same country or within Europe): A bank receipt/screenshot of the completed transaction online or a bank statement
- International bank transfer (transfers made between two different countries, excluding those within SEPA): A SWIFT MT103 of said transfer will need to be provided. This document must be issued by your bank
The proof of the original transaction can look different depending on the country and the bank that made your payment to Flywire. However, the proof will always display the transaction details used by the bank, including the payment amount and the originating account number that was used to make the payment to Flywire. Please note that we cannot accept payment receipts from your institution or from Flywire as proof of the original payment.
